I have been riding various bikes since childhood. Despite periods of auto-dependence, an adolescent infatuation with fast cars, and many hours spent tinkering with gas engines... the affection and trust I felt for my bike as a kid has never faded away, and is now stronger than ever. But to my dismay, the humble, faithful, loyal and trustworthy bicycle often gets a very bad rap these days. It just ain't fair -- so I spend some of my free time trying to combat velophobia and other carcentric prejudices, whether in local politics or in general philosophical essays. Particular interests of mine are road danger reduction, cyclists' road rights, sustainable transport, and urban form. I'm a carfree utility cyclist in America, which is a bit like being a peacenik at West Point....
